The Quarantine Book Series is a Brutal Modern Version of 'Lord of the Flies'

This series is not for the faint of heart.

I have read the Quarantine book series about three times during my life, and I think it's the craziest book series ever written for young adults. What would happen if an infection spread throughout the world, and only infected children? What if this infection was toxic to adults, instantly killing them, leaving behind children who have no parental or adult guidance in this awful environment?

What if a high school was left to fend for themselves, the adults are all dead inside, leaving the kids to figure out how to survive on their own?

This book series pretty much covers all kinds of topics when it comes to survival horror.

We follow the story of two brothers who start going to their high school, only to be stuck permanently in school forever, with a bunch of kids who are terrified. Since these kids are still just kids, they handle their new world with an immature mentality. The kids start their own gangs, and each rule different parts of the school. They get into fights, killing each other off, while also taking delight in torturing each other. Each book does not hold back, following three different gangs that take part in the series. We also get three different villains in all three books, who are absolutely evil.

The different points of view we get from each book is genius writing, and this story never hesitated to hold back. The first book follows the two main brothers who start their own gang, wanting to give hope to other gangs who are desperate to survive. One gang sees the two brothers as their own rivals, all because the leader from the rival gang kept it personal, always wanting to be better than the brothers. He was such an insecure villain, and I was so glad he got his karma in the end.

Book 2 then switches to the point of view of one brother, who becomes part of a new gang who enters the school. This gang is run by a psycho kid who lost his mind during the outbreak, hurting anyone who stands in his way, as the brother is determined to escape from his grasp.

Book 3 is probably the most shocking book in the series, and even though the first two were insane, the third book definitely went all out for the finale. We follow four different kids in book 3, three of them are the good guys, while one of them is a complete psychopath. This specific kid was in all three books, and was considered to be the hot popular girl in school.

She was one of the biggest villains in the book series, and because she was so stupid and selfish, always wanting to be seen as the hottest girl in the school, she was willing to do the most disturbing acts of violence to ensure her popular girl status. She was actually dating the first villain from book 1, and it makes sense why she was with him. She was the same like him, and was super evil, probably a little worse than her own ex.

Quarantine is a shocking book series that is not for the faint of heart. I would love a TV show on this book series one day, or possibly a movie trilogy, but the chances of that happening are so low, because there is no way they will be able to tackle all of the insanity that takes place in the books. So much of the storylines would have to be removed or done a bit tamer, because the explicit violent acts that take place in the book could not be brought to television or a theater.

It would have to get the Game of Thrones treatment, because the books were pretty bad, and yes, the show had its moments of brutality, but the books were on a whole different level.

Quarantine would need the same treatment, and I would love to watch an adaptation of this series one day!
