A Pair Of Lips Will Say Anything

It’s just before 8:30 am. The new/young mom, Tamia promised Samantha and James she’d have Brailey to their house already. She made a rule for herself from the moment of her daughter’s birth: not to rush. She arrives at their home with the baby in tow. They were used to the little one. At the same time, Brailey was still getting used to the young couple. James begins a roll-call of all the things in her diaper bag. Ensuring everything was accounted for. While he is doing that Sam is keeping Bray entertained. In hopes, Mommy can sneak out the door undetected. James reassures Tamia that her precious cargo is in excellent hands. The young Mom, backs out of the driveway realizing she forgot, to leave the car seat. She sits it just inside the door, without either of them noticing.
Getting back into the car with a sigh of relief. Now she’s ready to hit the road. Backing out the driveway, now she can relax and proceed to her destination. She is driving this time, it’s her first work trip since giving birth to Bray. By not flying she can get to their place quicker, than flying, parking woes, and driving through all the traffic. Her first course of action is to check her GPS, for the logistics. The next check, is to turn up the sound so she can focus. One thought that ran through her mind. How accomplished she feels, with the choice of her babysitters. She makes it a practice, not to turn up the radio, when her little one is a passenger. Now I can breathe, is the thought that came to her mind.
She thought this was my first business trip since I had Bray. Her anxiousness was causing her to worry, about her little one. Another realization that came to her was that she and Bray both needed this time away, separate from each other. Boy was the separation anxiety, kicking up pretty bad. She had already told herself, she wasn’t going to keep calling. To keep the thought of calling at bay, she bumped the radio. Wouldn’t you know it her phone rings. It’s Sam and they’re stuck as to how to make the bottle. In the background, Tamia hears Brailey fussing. The young Mom pulls off and talks Sam through the steps. Right away she gives her a bottle. That calms the little one down.
Tamia thanks her. She said, I was minutes from checking on you all. Sam, said you’re welcome. We debated about calling. James kept saying you’re going to bother her. She says with a quickness, bother me please! Now I know my feelings weren’t off. Sam, says okay and the line is released, just like that. Tamia, “thought one call down nine more to go and I haven’t even made it there. Now she’s back on the road and she ups the sound on her radio. She eases down the road, to her work conference.
This time with thirty minutes left on her route, Tamia calls them. She hears Bray screaming at the top of her lungs. For the love of God, what’s going on with my baby? James picks up the phone and he is yelling. He is only yelling to speak over the crying. He says I can’t get her to stop crying. It sounds like something is wrong. Did you look at your check-off list? He said, yes I thought I did. Have you changed her since you fed her? He said, “oops no we left that one out”. The young Mom responds how would you like to sit in your poop? Ok, I get it. That’s giving me a bad visual. Tamia, is pulling up at the work conference. She says so you got her? James says, “All is well Tamia. - We are back in the saddle again”. She makes it clear to them both, don’t feel like you are bothering me. I’ll drop everything and come get my baby. Okay. Just that fast Bray is asleep, after she’s all cleaned up. Tamia, releases the line and goes inside.
She’s keeping count and says 3 calls down and seven to go. The young Mom picks up her badge and packets, given to all attendees. Her next task was to make a b line for the front desk. As she checked in and received her keys the Manager says, “There you are Ms. Long. If you need anything, please let me know. Tamia proceeds to the elevator and goes to her room. She looks down at her keys and sees room# 1010. After entering the room she falls onto the bed and closes her eyes. Immediately jumping up to locate her phone. Taking a look at her conference schedule. She needed to see her first meeting time slot. The first one is set for 10:10 am.
The current time was 3:28pm. She sets her alarm, so she can take a nap. Tamia thought to herself Sam and James, have been too quiet. She called them and there was no answer. That didn’t settle well with her at all. Deciding to go through her paperwork before the conference tomorrow, was her thought. Again deciding, let me call them back. As she dialed, but still no answer. Now she is in worried mode. She is canvassing all scenarios of where they could be. The young mom, says to herself, “This is the first time and last, I’m leaving my baby with anyone. Until she gets much older.

Whoa, Jacqueline this made my anxiety rise a little in a real way. The whole time I’m like, “Tamia… breathe girl.” I swear new parent brain is just “everything is fine” mixed with “something is definitely wrong.” And when they don’t answer the phone?? Yeah no. I would’ve been halfway back in the car already. Splendidly done! 💖
