The Whisper in the Empty Room
Rafiq never believed in ghosts. He used to laugh whenever his friends talked about haunted houses, strange sounds, or shadows in the dark. For him, everything had a logical explanation. But the night he stayed alone in his uncle's old house changed his mind forever.

Rafiq never believed in ghosts. He used to laugh whenever his friends talked about haunted houses, strange sounds, or shadows in the dark. For him, everything had a logical explanation. But the night he stayed alone in his uncle's old house changed his mind forever.
The house was in a quiet village far from the city. It was big, old, and almost empty. Rafiqs uncle had moved to another country and asked him to stay there for a few days to take care of the place. Rafiq thought it would be easy. A free house, no noise, no people — just peace.
On the first night, everything felt normal. He cleaned one room, made his bed, and watched videos on his phone until midnight. Outside, the wind moved through the trees, making a soft whistling sound. It was a little creepy, but nothing unusual.
At exactly 1:13 AM, Rafiq heard a knock.
He looked at the door, confused. Nobody knew he was there. The knock came again. Slow. Three times.
Knock… Knock… Knock…
Rafiq stood up and walked to the door. When he opened it, no one was there. The yard was empty. Only the wind moved the leaves on the ground.
He closed the door and laughed at himself.
“Old house sounds,” he said quietly.
He went back to bed.
A few minutes later, he heard footsteps upstairs.
The problem was… the upstairs floor was locked.
His uncle told him never to go there because the stairs were broken. Rafiq froze and listened carefully. The footsteps were slow, like someone walking with heavy shoes.
Step… step… step…
Rafiq grabbed his phone and turned on the flashlight.
He walked toward the staircase.
The sound stopped.
He stood there for a moment, his heart beating fast. The air felt cold, much colder than before. He told himself it was just fear, nothing else.
Then he heard a whisper.
It came from upstairs.
Very soft.
Very close.
“Leave…”
Rafiq felt his whole body shake. He wanted to run, but his legs would not move.
Again, the whisper came.
“Leave this house…”
He quickly went back to his room and locked the door. He turned on all the lights, but the room still felt dark somehow. The air felt heavy, like someone else was inside with him.
He tried to sleep, but he couldn't.
At 2:07 AM, the lights suddenly went off.
Everything became black.
His phone flashlight turned on again, shaking in his hand. In the corner of the room, he saw something moving.
At first, it gave the impression of a shadow.
Then the shadow stood up.
It became tall. Too tall. Its head nearly touched the ceiling. Rafiq couldn't see the face, his best white eyes sparkling within the dark.
The issue does now no longer walk.
It slid closer.
Rafiq couldn't breathe. His voice became caught in his throat.
The whisper got here again, however now it became inside the room.
“You have to now no longer live here…”
The shadow stopped right in front of him.
Suddenly, the door in the back of him opened with the aid of using itself with a noisy sound.
BANG!
Rafiq ran out of the room without searching lower back. He ran out of the residence, barefoot, now no longer worrying about anything. He saved going for walks till he reached the road.
He stayed there till morning.
When the solar got here up, he went lower back to the residence with acquaintances from the village. He instructed them everything.
One vintage guy checked out him quietly and said,
“You didn`t know?”
Rafiq asked, “Know what?”
The vintage guy pointed at the residence.
“Many years ago, a person died upstairs. He lived on my own. People say he nevertheless walks at night. Anyone who remains there hears the whisper.”
Rafiq by no means went lower back into that residence again.
Even now, he says he doesn't agree with ghosts.
But he by no means remains on my own at night anymore.
