My little son gave me a rock today,
nobody dares call it meaningless,
for I know it's worth.
He is mere 3.5 in age,
and coming to understand
that his mother is avid nature lover.
She adores its entities,
bark, leaves, pebbles,
feathers, shells, twigs,
all are sacred to her.
He has seen her gather botanicals
for art, for specimen,
pick rocks for paving the garden.
So today he gifted me a rock
picked from somewhere.
his second gift.
The first was a pineapple leaf,
from a grocery store.
I accepted both with gratitude.
It is saying, without words:
“Mum, I value your passion,
and I will support it.”
Who does not want a
nature steward as the earth suffers.

Kids are often closer to nature because work and tech haven’t taken up so much space in their lives yet. I envy that purity!
