New Year Will not be Fabulous
Yet, lucky to be living
I wish I could say
I am excited for the new year.
I have high hopes,
my skills will be valued, will earn more,
get caring friends and travel a lot.
I will be happier.
Alas. No.
That would be being delusional.
Nothing is going to happen.
Life will be more complex.
I will have anticipatory grief
for the old, widowed mother.
I will feel pain,
over fraying relations with siblings.
I will worry over finances,
the degrading condition of
earth, water, air, food,
my aging body too. Sigh.
The new year will not be fabulous,
still, I am glad to be a guest in
this wonderful guesthouse,
living is a privilege, life is good.
