Dancing, Dreaming, and Romancing
When it comes to the movies you have to admit that Hollywood transports us to incredible places and brings out many emotions from us when we sit there in the dark and that giant screen lights up. We wind up so wrapped up in what is happening on the screen that we live along with the story and often times find ourselves both laughing and crying and just plain wanting to cheer. The only thing we cannot do is to dance in the aisles but some songs from the movies have made us want to do just that and isn't that a wonderful feeling?

Unusual Names For Towns
When traveling people usually go to known places such as perhaps Fairbanks or the capital, Juneau Alaska. It may be more interesting to go to unknown places such as Deadhorse, Alaska. Now I don’t know if this town has ever had anything to do with a dead horse but I do know that it is an unincorporated town in North Slope Borough in Alaska. The town is located near the Arctic Ocean. It mainly has facilities for the workers and companies that operate at Prudhoe Bay oil fields and companies that have facilities at Deadhorse also service the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS).

For the Love Of Sid
In January 2009, my husband and I lived in the suburbs of Riga, Latvia, in a two-story house with our then fur baby, a darling girl cat named Cha-Cha. January 2009 started off badly for us. Cha-Cha had respiratory problems, and at the age of 12, she died in my arms. It seemed that sometimes the heartache would suffocate as the days went on, and there was no loving furry face to make us smile. Finally, as March drew near and the spring was getting closer, my husband agreed to adopt a cat. We had found Cha-Cha in a friend's garden, but now we would go online and see what the animal rescue services in Riga, Latvia offered for adoption. As I looked at the photos suddenly, there he was with dark and light grey fur and so very handsome I got very excited. We made the arrangements and went to see if we could adopt this boy cat.

The Beauty of Nature in Italy
Asinara National Park is located on Asinara the second largest island in Sardinia. It is an amazing paradise with lots of untouched beaches and the water is crystal clear and sparkling. As lovely as this sounds this island was once known as ”Devil’s Island”. This was due to the fact that at one time it was a quarantine camp during WWI and became a high-security prison in the 1970s and 1980s.

The Woman Who Could
The assignment said to write a letter to the toughest woman I know and I hope a loving tribute to my mom will do. My mom Elvira Alexandra Grunte was born in Riga, Latvia, on May 26, 1911. She came into this world when the world was changing, and Latvia was going through many occupations. It was not easy, but my mom managed to get through school, university and got a job to help out her mom at the Riga Film Studios. No, not as an actress but in administration. Suddenly her life was disrupted by the approach of WW II and the coming of Soviet occupation. She was such a brave and determined woman who arranged to escape others' fate and deportation by leaving the capital, Riga, in the dead of night with some of her colleagues' help. It was a miracle that these people in a rowboat managed to reach the European continent's shores and get to one of the D.P. or Deported Person's Camps in Germany.

Tasty Savory Pastries
From the town of Recco, which is the gastronomic capital of Liguria, a region in Italy comes tasty cheese-filled Focaccia di Recco. They can be purchased in every bakery, pizzeria, and restaurant. These delectable pastries were created in the 12th century when according to legend the residents of Recco were making food for the Crusaders using what little ingredients they had - flour, water, olive oil, and cheese.

Little Girls Growing Up Too Fast
We were among the lucky children growing up in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York. Having New York City for a hometown could be very daunting it was not just your typical hometown with a simple Main Street. Children who grew up in small towns, in my eyes, were the lucky ones where everyone knew each other, and you could have a real sense of belonging.
