"Beyond the Gates" Weeks 38-44 Recap
It's been a minute since I delivered a Beyond the Gates recap, but I want to start with this. If you had told me that in 2025 and now into 2026 that I'd be religiously watching any soap opera, I would have looked at you like you had three heads or something. My feelings about soaps had always been complicated. I had peeped into some of the classics at times, but I was never a religious viewer. A question I never asked myself was this: "What would it take for me to actually watch a soap every day?"

Hamnet Movie Review
Debuting ten years ago with Songs My Brothers Taught Me, Chloe Zhao has a keen eye for deeply poignant connections. Following a brief stint in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Zhao has started 2026 with a powerful production, one that will certainly be up for many awards and widespread praise.

One Battle After Another
Okay full honesty here; I was not looking forward to watching this movie. I HATED Killers of the Flower Moon and that was the last time I saw Leo DiCaprio’s face. I think the writing better be damn good to warrant a nearly 3 hour film, and that is almost never the case. And almost every time a film gets touted “film of the year” it's actually nowhere near the best film that came out that year. So this film had an uphill battle with me before I ever pressed play. But I am nothing if not incredible at objective analysis. So I fought through it anyway.

Jay Kelly
Jay Kelly is one of the movies that slipped through my fingers last year but we are getting to it before Oscar nominations so it's a win I guess. I am a fan of Adam Sandler as a person but not as much as an actor and I never understood the fascination with George Clooney so I didn’t have a strong inclination toward this movie. That said, it was on the to do list so here we go.

Blue Moon
Okay so honestly I hadn’t even seen a trailer for this film before deciding to watch it. The synopsis was enough for my little theatre nerd heart. Also seeing the cast list was enough to hook me. Blue Moon is about Lorenz Hart dealing with Richard Rodgers Oklahoma! opening. As a certified theatre kid who watched Hugh Jackman in Oklahoma! so often my brother knows the words, I was truly looking forward to immersing myself into the lore of the relationship before Rodgers and Hammerstein took over musical theatre.

The Day Everything Changed
I missed the last bus on purpose. Not because I wanted to be stranded, but because I couldn’t face going home. That day had been one long unraveling—work mistakes, a call from my sister about our mother’s health, the kind of exhaustion that lives in your bones. The bus stop bench was cold, the sky bruised with storm clouds, and I just… stayed. Let the schedule pass. Let the world move on without me.
