An unexpected package
Madalyn had just arrived at her apartment after shopping all day for Christmas gifts for both of her and her fiancés families. As she was fumbling in her purse for her keys, she noticed a package wrapped in brown paper in front of her door. Finally, she had found her keys and she reached down and thoughtlessly scooped up the package and tucked it under her arm as she walked through the door.

The Box on the Porch
The Box on the Porch It was Saturday morning when the doorbell chimed. “Who the heck would that be?” I was in the kitchen nursing my cup of coffee. I put it down, walked through the living room and answered the door. There was no one there but a two-foot high box was sitting there. I looked outside and could see a van driving off down the street.

Germaine Street - Chapter Seven
Gudrun opened her eyes, pale and aquamarine as the walls of the Vatnajökull caves, and yawned. To her left PhinFlam stirred slightly and mumbled something about thorns and furrows in Gaeilge Ársa. Itsuki had joined them around 2 am and had chosen the form of a young man with flowing green locks and silvery skin for the rest of their conscious time.

The Wendigo
The Wendigo Aiden jolts up in his bed, his arms holding his body up. The sweat dripping from his brow to the sheets below him, drenching them even more. His room spinning around his head, turning the posters on the wall into a mirage of colors, but there was nothing he could do to decipher one from the other. The walls fly faster and faster past his eyes, suddenly he sees a dark figure standing halfway out of the closet. The room keeps rotating, and with every spin the figure gets closer. The void of where its’ eyes should be, suck him in. Though there aren’t any eyes for Aiden to look into, it stares at him. Aiden’s hands fly up to his head to steady his skull. The figures arm begins to reach forward but before it can touch him, the cat knocks the lamp off the desk, bringing Aiden back to his body.

Just a Slice of Cake
When I woke the realization hit me that I was in my own dining room. The large ceiling light was turned off and the dining room was bedecked in an overbearing number of candles in all shades. I would blame the marbles of sweat that rolled down my face on the heat of so many candles, but it was the fact that my wife had me tied down to the chair with the very ties that she had gifted me in the past five years. One had dinosaurs on it and the other little stacks of money with wings coming off them. And she wondered why I never wore them. A decision I might be regretting now.

The Dead Hour
People talk about the things that go “bump” in the night as if they don’t exist. The scary fairytales that we all know are fantasy, non-existent, inconsequential even; they are used to scare children into cleaning their rooms and provide movie dates where you can hold the girl you like real close when the jump scenes appear on the screen. Halloween is just a holiday; Freddy Krueger is just a character; Sleepy Hollow is just a town; Annabelle is just a doll. We can sleep at night with the lights off and the windows open because we know these things. I used to believe that as well. I wish I could go back in time and once again become ignorant to the truth. Unfortunately, I can never go back. I now wake up in the middle of the night with the sheets soaked with my sweat, my heart nearly bursting out of my chest, my throat dry from screaming, and my fingers numb from squeezing the pillow next to me. I am afraid, I am scared, I am terrified. I can no longer walk down the street without looking over my shoulder or sleep in a room with the lights off. I will tell you of the night that has changed my life and I hope and I pray that whomever reads this will never have to experience the true horrors of the world as I have. There are dangers that hide in the dark and lie beneath our shadows, they are right in front of our eyes and sleep comfortably underneath our beds. I will tell you of the night I discovered pure unadulterated fear.
