Recycling is Just the Start
Recycling is just an illusion; it’s a story we’ve been told to make us feel better about buying plastic water bottles and aluminum pop cans. It’s a story that’s been shoved down our throats since preschool, and yet, it doesn’t live up to the promises it makes. And the problem is that no one is asking what recycling truly is, if its supporting the health of the Earth, or even what happens to those bottles and cans once they disappear from our bins.

Here's why these 7 animals and insects are important to our ecosystem
A lot of people are quite ignorant of the true importance of animals and insects and what roles they play. We see a wild animal and we call it our spirit animal, and we might know a few cool facts about it, but do we actually know why they are significant? Why they shouldn't be harmed or become close to endangered?

My Green Home. Top Story - May 2021.
For my Wave Makers challenge, I chose to break down my home and our “green” habits. Allow me to begin by saying that we, my household and I, are not a 100% super green, eco-friendly home. We aren't, but the title isn't a lie either. More or less, we live by the ideology that if we don't need it, we don't use it and that if it's not safe enough to be recycled or broken down, then we don't need to be using it at all. With this in mind, we still have wasteful tendencies to an extent, but we try to make a difference in our choices to help out our beautiful planet.

Waves of Plastic
The stress and chaos of everyday life can be overwhelming. For some, a vacation is just what they need to de-stress and take a break from reality. My vacation would consist of sitting on the soft silky sand on a beach in Maine, watching the ocean waves crash against the rocks and flow up on the shore, washing over my feet with a margarita in hand. However, with the amount of pollution that is taking over our Oceans, soon they will be just another landfill if we don’t do something.

Skin and Skins
This morning there is a very bright, but waning, moon and clear skies and the sun is in its twilight rising. The forest is brilliantly bathed in a supernatural blue light and, though there is still a chill on the air, the earth is breathing its life to us and envigorating us. The smell and sounds of the waking forest are wonderful. My ecstatic little wife is dancing and prancing about camp behind the 1980 F250 which has become our refuge while we work and pay our remote land and home. She wears no shoes and nothing but her favorite tie-dye shirt if she can.

Nature in the time of Pandemic
March 3rd, 2020. Early morning in the life of a growing Pandemic. Startled by a shower of wood chips, I yelled “What?” and looked up. A flicker couple, resplendent in their red mustaches and mottled feathers made a quick get-away from our towering silver maple. They had been scoping out the tree for weeks. Their distinctive call, a loud, rolling rattle with its piercing tone had disrupted the quiet in our little neighborhood. Flitting among the branches, they made a comforting, wick-a, wick-a murmur that seemed to say, “I’m here, love.”
