The Body On the Ceiling
At night I wake up to a disfigured body on my ceiling. I'm awakened by a faint struggling breath, and unable to move; my body paralyzed and so vulnerable. Then there I see it, looming on the ceiling above me. It seems like something I'm not supposed to see, but I see it every night. Once I see it, the moment only lasts about less than a minute before I fall back to sleep, but it feels like an eternity being paralyzed and scared. I never remember falling back to sleep. I just see it for a bit then eventually go unconscious.

Monsters Are Real
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. There were a group of friends camping in the area. One girl was near the cabin gathering sticks and branches to start a fire. Startled by the lit candle, she tripped and fell hard on her hands and knees. When she stood and brushed her dirty hands off she cautiously turned to see what she had fallen over. Dead, lifeless eyes of a boy around her age with his mouth gaping open stared back at her. She screamed and took off running back to her camp. Not knowing how far she'd wandered, she ran and ran. Hollering her friends names, she strained her ears to hear for them talking. The only sound that reached back to her was a shrill wind. Panicking, she ran faster. Sweat started trickling down her back and her breathing was becoming ragged. She slowed to try and catch some air when it suddenly started pouring rain on her.

I SAW A DEMON WATCHING ME
During this time, I was probably seven or eight. Towards the end of the night, my brother Greg showed up there. During her girlfriend’s absence, my mother cared for me and Greg almost constantly. The name we’ll use is J. She was employed by the local Comfort Inn Hotel and was gone from the usual 9 to 5 hours each day. I was very close to Kaleb because he began dating my mother just a few months after I turned one, in November of 2006. Out of the two of us, I’d say. We all knew I was the one. Let’s fast-forward a little bit from here. She had been staying at the hotel for a week when I was just seven years old. The reason I’m assuming she went was to see her family. When the week was up, she had to leave the hotel, which she had arrived at via public transportation. However, she was short on cash and had to rely on Kaleb to get her home. Please bear in mind, however, that she reportedly resided in Ohio. Our small Pennsylvania town was quite a distance away, but Kaleb agreed, so they packed up the ladies’ belongings and drove all the way to Ohio in his Mazda SUV. While watching television in the living room, I ate PB and J sandwiches while drinking Capri Sun packets. When Kaleb walks into the living room from the kitchen and announces to my family that we will be staying at Kay’s house, I do what any little kid would do. What did she say to me? “Who’s that?” I inquired. You may recall the elderly woman from the

An Abandoned Cabin
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. It was strange that it was there. As he remembered both of the cabin doors were locked. From the outside with old heavy padlocks that he knew weren't easy to break. The police had made sure of that. And Ash felt compelled to double check them to be sure they weren't broken or something like that. To be sure that no one had broken in recently. As there had to be a reason for the candle in the window. But, both of the padlocks were perfectly fine. Neither looked like they had been recently messed with. Or had been touched since the day they were placed there. It only made him more curious as he continued to walk around the cabin. Looking at the windows that were on the first floor. Thinking that maybe one of them had been broken into.

Ghost At My Sisters House
My wife and I were staying with my sister for the night. The kids had gone to her parents house and having been married with children, we had no So we were hanging with our sister. We’re getting ready for bed and my wife and I were fighting over a single sink as we were brushing our teeth. The door to the hallway was open and I’m staring at myself in the mirror as I brush away. I then see my sister-in-law walk past me wearing a white skirt and pants, not three feet away from me. Mind you, and go down the hallway towards the living room and the kitchen. Now the layer of this House means that anyone and everyone needs to go down this hallway by the bathroom to move between the bedrooms and the kitchen and the living room. So, knowing that my sister-in-law had traveled that way and being kind of * **** I figured I could sneak up on her and scare the crap out of her. So I leave the bathroom and head on down towards the living room. No one is in the living room, so I head sneakily towards the kitchen knowing that this is the only run she could be in. I jump yelling loudly out in the kitchen. And there’s no one there. The only other place she could have gone is out into the garage, so knowing my year would have even alerted her, I walk over to the garage and noticed that the deadbolt is still engaged. I turn the lock open and close it again. Pondering what the hell is going on. Just as I’m doing so, a hand touches my back and I nearly **** my pants. Turning around so violently, I nearly punched my wife in the

the unwanted visitor
The unwanted visitor. By ashlee weber The loud noises all around me, I just want them to stop but I know the moment they will something bad will come from the silence. A loud couple of bangs followed my thoughts, a loud scream and then silence, a strike of fear struck my body making me freeze for a good second until I snap back into reality looking over to my dog that is equally scared and stuck in fear. I unlock my door and sprint down the hallway, the hallway feels so large, the cold wooden floor underneath my feet and slightly open the brown sliding door in terror of what I am looking at, I fall to my knees trying to keep in my scream which is clawing at my throat to come out, knowing if I make a noise the same will happen to me. Tears stream down my face crying as silently as possible. I know the world was not always like this, what were these weird creatures?

Creatures of fire and pain
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. They only came when summoned by augury, called forth by the screams of the dying man as I dragged his entrails across a table soaked in pain. These were not the human sized monsters that prowled the north but creatures of power, their scales scorched by hellfire and their dark eyes open to the future and the past.

From Patala
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. The reputation of the dragon amongst the nomadic peoples of this land seems to have endured since anyone had memory of the foothills, the plains, and the winds that howl through the mountains. But the emergence of dragons in the Valley has always been treated as a fairly recent thing among the myths of the region. Though, there supposedly never even was a Valley before they came. You must let me shed a little light on this tale before I continue with my own. Being as how this tale has been told around the last smoldering embers of a night’s fire all across the steppes since ancient times, I feel I’m obliged to take advantage of this dimming bed of coals between us now. It would do you well to listen.

A Shadow in the Night Rising
A Shadow in the Night Rising LITHE-WIND CROUCHED beyond the vale, studying the horror before her that had become so commonplace since the start of Metacom’s War. She waited, slowing her breath, patient though her heart pounded, implacable though her lip twitched, serene though her stomach roiled. For a long while, nothing moved but the billow of black smoke, roping blistered in knurled plumes high into the sky.

The Beast
The Beast THEY CALLED HIM THE BEAST behind his back. To his face, no one had the balls. No one. And this was something in the gulags. Once, years past, I witnessed him murdering a guard. Manacled. He strangled him, nearly severing the man’s head. So violent. So efficient. So impressive. In the midst of a gulag riot it occurred. Many suspected, but none knew, not for sure. Except me, and I did not talk. You didn’t talk. You don’t.

The New Guard
The New Guard SILENT LIGHTNING BLARES stiletto sharp as disco strobes as I stare out the window, riding shotgun. Flashes. Freezes blast past, instants frozen in time, frames of photography smashed together into a fractured comic that has no plot, no unity, no sense. A yowling pack of mangy coyotes chases a squealing cur through a bodega parking lot. A drug house next. Then an Aztec pyramid in silhouette against dim city lights. More tourist traps. Thin grizzled men, dried as jerky, dancing drunk round a rippling trash can fire. Hell … maybe the story does make sense; I don’t know, but if it does, it’s a shitty one no one wants to read.
